closing window doesn't kill terminal process or process running in terminal

What steps will reproduce the problem?
- open new iterm2 window
- ssh into another machine
- close iterm2 window
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
ssh session and iterm2 process should both be killed. instead, the processes still exist (ps | grep iterm2 or ps | grep ssh & the process's are still running)
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
iterm2 1.0.0.20120123, on mac 10.5.8
Please provide any additional information below.
The default behavior for closing the regular mac os terminal is to kill the process running and the terminal process when the window is closed. Neither of these are killed, which is a problem, because after a week or two, the computer runs out of system forks :o ... it's tricky for a beginner to know that this is the problem, and that closing the window wouldn't clean up the processes running.
