Better tmux -C menu

Currently "tmux -C" brings up a textual menu. This works, but I think iTerm could handle this better.
Some ideas:
-
Maybe put the primary window in the tmux session into the window that currently displays the menu. I'm unsure about that, though.
-
Maybe put the window with the menu into a special mode. For example make it darker or something.
-
Maybe add another option like "hideshell" "e.g. tmux -C -hideshell attach" to get iTerm to hide the terminal window and replace it with a small control-window that represents the tmux session (and handles the menu commands). When a detach command is issued the old window may be brought back up.
