MacOS modifiers with arrow keys do not work in shell for page/scroll movements
Bug report
The default terminal does most of these actions, so it is either you forgot to implement them or they are just bugged out.
- iTerm2 version: Build 3.4.23
- OS version: MacOS 14
- com.googlecode.iterm2.plist
- debuglog.txt
Detailed steps to reproduce the problem
- Open iterm2
- maybe run a few commands such as file listing and fill the screen few pages
- now try the arrow keys with all modifier keys (except the shift)
What happened
- pressing "alt" key and arrow keys outputs
[D[C[A[B
instead of moving back and fort the words - pressing "fn" key and left/right arrow keys has no effect, while up/down gives only a tilde, instead of moving maybe in command history
- pressing "cmd" key and left/right arrow keys has no effect while up/down just scrolls the view
What should have happened
MacOS computers does not have "Page Up/Down", "Home" and "End" keys found in PC keyboards. The usual word/line/page jumps are done via "alt/cmd/fn" keys and arrow combinations.
Without these jump/scroll commands, using shell in the terminal renders unbearable (but editors such as nano seems to be fine, or at least most of their functioning are fine). Not being able to jump to the start of a very long line is a real deal breaker just like a fly in the soup.
I hope you fix this navigation keys very soon. Best wishes
