Settings/Profile always restored to default after quitting iterm
Thanks for filing an issue! Please answer the questions below so I can help you.
- iTerm2 version: Build 3.4.19
- OS version:
- Attach ~/Library/Preferences/com.googlecode.iterm2.plist here (drag-drop from finder into this window)
- While iterm is open (after changing prefs to use custom plist location) while-iterm-is-open.plist this file was protected so I had to sudo copy that file out.
- custom-saved-location.plist
- plist-after-quit-restart.plist
- Attach a debug log, if possible. Instructions at https://iterm2.com/debuglog
- link 404s
- Attach a screen capture video if it would make the reproduction steps clearer.

PLEASE ATTACH YOUR PLIST FILE FOR BUG REPORTS! Seriously! I'll probably ask you for it if you don’t.
Detailed steps to reproduce the problem:
- Open iterm, change profile settings (appearance), "load preferences from a custom folder or URL", any setting
- Close Iterm
What happened: Restored windows have the desired appearance, but with a top bar saying "This session's profile, "Default" no longer exists. A profile with that name happens to exist". When creating a new window, it has only default appearance. Going into settings, it looks like none of my custom settings have been loaded, not even the "Load preferences from a custom folder or URL" section. Upon trying to load that again, it asks "Copy local preferences to custom folder now?". Upon saying no, there is no change in the appearance settings.
Not using a custom plist location and just changing the default profile, creating a new profile, both yield the same results.
What should have happened: Settings/preferences should have been restored after a quit and restart!
