Slack-like GitLab repo activity feed
1. Summary
We want to migrate from GitHub/Slack to GitLab/Gitter. But I think, activities notifications not in favor of Gitter.
2. Argumentation
2.1. Types
- Automation
- Usability
2.2. Notifications
I can't find, how I can get Gitter notifications about new activities from my GitLab repositories.
For example, I use Rambox aggregator for chats, where am I talking. See Rambox issue for details.
2.3. In-app reading
In Slack I can read issues and comments on them inside Slack; I don't must open issue/comment in browser, that read it. It saves a user time.
I can't find, how I can get similar behavior in Gitter. I see information about issues/comments, not their contents.
3. Steps to reproduce
I registered on Gitter → I created Gitter room → I added GitLab integration of my demo GitLab repository:
I added example comment to issue tracker of my demo GitLab repository.
4. Expected behavior
Like Slack + GitHub integration. I can:
- Get Gitter notifications
- Read full issues or comment content inside Gitter
5. Actual behavior
I can't do what I described in the previous section.
6. Answers to possible replies
6.1. You shouldn't use Rambox, use official Gitter app
Rambox — is web-services aggregator, which is a Chrome-based browser. Rambox shows Gitter web edition as in a tab of any modern browser.
I don't think, that there are differences between Gitter web app and Gitter from Rambox.
Thanks.
