Solution Validation (unmoderated): Filtering, saved views, and grouping
What’s this issue all about?
To conduct solution validation on the design proposal for a new filtering pattern, customizable saved views, grouping on the Vulnerability Report.
Who is the target user of the feature?
All GitLab personas, so the insights are applicable to all parts of the product that will use filters, grouping, and saved views.
What questions are you trying to answer?
- Is the design intuitive? Do users know how to interact with the components?
- Can users complete the tasks successfully and without errors or confusion?
- What improvements can we make to the design?
Considerations
There are still ongoing conversations and design explorations among other teams (Plan, Foundations) so the specific implementation of the components (e.g. whether or not to use checkboxes vs the checkmark pattern in the dropdown, whether or not we can use a button in the dropdown) is TBD. Those related issues are:
- Document filter alternatives to the filter component
- Define a pattern for navigating between dashboards and boards
What hypotheses and/or assumptions do you have?
- Participants will be able to complete all tasks successfully
- The majority of ease of use scores will be 4s or 5s
- The design proposal will be an improvement from the current experience, where filters are limited and search, custom views, and grouping are non-existent.
What decisions will you make based on the research findings?
Design changes, if needed, otherwise we can confidently move forward with implementation.
