Improvements on AWS offering
I'm going through setting up GitLab CE on AWS and the information from GL's end is scarce and confusing. Some of the issues I've encountered (sorry for dumping them in a single issue):
- https://about.gitlab.com/aws/ is way too light on information.
- The AWS marketplace holds at current count 212 images containing the word gitlab. It's not at all clear which ones are officially offered by GitLab. I figured it out after reading an issue here that states your official AWS account id, but that's not how it should be obviously
- The official Gitlab AMI's on the marketplace don't have a description. Imho that should point towards a doc on your site somewhere with official instructions
- The builds of the AMI images are not public, so it's hard to see what is being put in them. This is important for people to trust this for production imho. If there are packer builds (the most common way of doing this) can they be made public?
- I'm looking for instructions or pointers on how to set up an autoscaling CI cluster using spot instances or ECS/EKS, which is imho where the real value of putting gitlab on the cloud will come from.
- I saw there's work on an official quickstart guide with AWS together, which is great! I'd also like to let you know that many people are using terraform for all their AWS infrastructure and it would be great if you guys could have terraform modules on the terraform module registry.
