Ensure Omnibus GitLab gems are recompiled for older platforms

Stan Hu requested to merge sh-force-ruby-platform-build-omnibus-gems into master

What does this MR do?

This merge request does two things:

  1. Ensure Omnibus GitLab gems are recompiled for older platforms

The ffi gem just released a precompiled gem for aarch64-linux-musl, which is built with Ubuntu 20.04 with glibc 2.27. As a result, older systems, such as Amazon Linux 2, need to enable force_ruby_platform true to ensure any native gems continue to work. This will be needed if the ffi gem is updated to 1.17.0.

  1. Updates the ffi gem to 1.17.0.

This fixes a number of issues (https://my.diffend.io/gems/ffi/1.16.3/1.17.0), and will validate that this gem avoids precompiled gems on systems with older glibc versions.

If you don't have access to this, the reviewer should trigger these jobs for you during the review process.

  • The manual Trigger:ee-package jobs have a green pipeline running against latest commit.
  • If config/software or config/patches directories are changed, make sure the build-package-on-all-os job within the Trigger:ee-package downstream pipeline succeeded.
  • If you are changing anything SSL related, then the Trigger:package:fips manual job within the Trigger:ee-package downstream pipeline must succeed.
  • If CI configuration is changed, the branch must be pushed to dev.gitlab.org to confirm regular branch builds aren't broken.

Expected (please provide an explanation if not completing)

  • Test plan indicating conditions for success has been posted and passes.
  • Documentation created/updated.
