Fix: 500 error in Groups API when statistics are requested in an unauthenticated API call

This change fixes bug in Groups API when statistics are requested in an unauthenticated API call to

GET /groups?statistics=true & GET /groups/:id/subgroups?statistics=true, that causes 500 errors.
