What does this MR do and why?

This MR removes the experimental pipelines widget from the personal homepage. The widget showed the user's recent merge request pipelines in the right-hand column, under the Quick access widget. The experiment is not being pursued, so the code is removed instead of rolled out.

The widget was gated by the feature flag homepage_pipelines_widget (type wip, default off, user actor), which is removed along with it. The flag was never enabled by default, though it may have been enabled for a few internal testers through ChatOps, so after this MR is deployed, run /chatops run feature delete homepage_pipelines_widget to remove any leftover gate. The fields added to the GET /api/v4/pipelines REST API for the widget (project, detailed_status, timing fields, merge_request) stay, since they are documented public API and removing them would be a breaking change. The commit carries Changelog: other, the type used for removing a default-off flag together with its feature.

Removed:

  • app/assets/javascripts/homepage/components/pipelines_widget.vue and its Jest spec spec/frontend/homepage/components/pipelines_widget_spec.js
  • the flag definition config/feature_flags/wip/homepage_pipelines_widget.yml
  • the widget's import, component registration, and template usage in app/assets/javascripts/homepage/components/homepage_app.vue, together with the glFeatureFlagsMixin mixin, which had no other user in that component
  • the TRACKING_LABEL_PIPELINES constant in app/assets/javascripts/homepage/tracking_constants.js
  • the before_action only: [:index] block in app/controllers/root_controller.rb; it only pushed this flag to the frontend, and the personal_homepage push was already removed from it on master, so the block would otherwise be empty
  • the two HomePagePipelinesWidget| strings in locale/gitlab.pot, regenerated with tooling/bin/gettext_extractor

There are no screenshots. The widget was behind a default-off feature flag, so for users without the flag the homepage looks the same before and after this change, since nothing new is rendered.

How to set up and validate locally

  1. Check out the branch 627139-remove-homepage-pipelines-widget.
  2. Sign in to your GDK and open the root URL (the personal homepage). The right-hand column shows only the Quick access widget. There is no Pipelines widget, and the page has no console errors.
  3. Run grep -rn homepage_pipelines_widget app config spec ee locale from the repository root. It prints nothing.
  4. Run yarn jest spec/frontend/homepage/components/homepage_app_spec.js and bin/rspec spec/controllers/root_controller_spec.rb. Both pass.
