Minor code cleanup

What does this MR do and why?

While working on !147700 (closed) I noticed a number of Ruby style conventions being ignored, so I just zipped through and added () where needed, shortened a few extra long lines. This should be functionally transparent and style-focused only to get this file more into the usual Gitlab Ruby style.
