Work items - Design version is unusable from within a drawer

The original bug reported in this issue has been fixed via !185700 (merged) & !185321 (merged) which makes this issue no longer qualified to be work itemsga-issues but it still needs an additional MR to address the problem mentioned in #526071 (comment 2418040437).
Changing the design version from the drawer view closes the drawer, and reopening the item will return to the latest version, making it impossible to use without opening the full view.
This is confusing as there's no clear reason why it didn't work or how to recover.
