Your input is crucial in helping us understand and address the needs of our users, ensuring that our product continues to evolve and improve.
Status: Generally available (.com) / Available in beta in 17.10
The features described here are available now for users on gitlab.com. For users managing their installed version, these features are available in beta in 17.10 via the "New look" toggle at the top of an issue page, and will be generally available in 17.11.
What's changed
Issues have joined epics and tasks in migrating to a common framework, each of these now look and, in most cases, work the same as one another. As part of these changes, more data in issues and epics is now updated in real time.
Drawer view: Opening an issue or task from the issue list or board, an epic from the epic board, or epics, issues, or tasks from another item's "Child items" now appears in a drawer, allowing you to quickly find and view items, and to open items from group lists/boards without having to navigate into the project. A button at the top of the drawer will open in a full page.
New issue features
- Promote/Change type: You can now change between issues and task types using the "Change type" action in the top actions menu. This also replaces "Promote to epic", which can be found within "Change type".
- Start date: Issues can now utilize a Start Date, aligned with Epics and Tasks.
- Ancestry: In addition to the 'Parent' field in the sidebar (previously 'Epic'), you can find the entire hierarchy above the title (Issue parent requires Premium license or above).
- Controls: All controls, including confidentiality and move, have moved to the top actions menu, which is also now accessible within the "sticky" header that appears when scrolled.
- Development: Merge requests, branches, and feature flags related to an issue or task are now consolidated in a single list.
- Layout: UI changes help provide a more seamless experience between issues, epics, tasks, and merge requests, and get you to different parts of your workflow more quickly.
