Upgrade Fastlane and Cocoapods on macOS SaaS Runners
The versions of Fastlane and Cocoapods installed by default on our macOS runner machines are pretty outdated. This leads to a problem where users run into preventable job failures simply because they don't realize the tools they rely on aren't up to date. I've worked on three support issues related to this problem this week, which are time-consuming to troubleshoot.
For example, see the macos-12-xcode-14
machine info below:
Package | Running Version | Release Date | Current Version | Release Date |
---|---|---|---|---|
Fastlane | 2.199.0 | 2021-12-10 | 2.212.2 | 2023-04-16 |
CocoaPods | 1.11.2 | 2021-09-13 | 1.12.1 | 2023-04-18 |
Users will expect the default versions of these tools to be more current, so we can improve their experience and lower our support burden by upgrading these tools.
@gabrielengel_gl @DarrenEastman @nicolewilliams, I know the process for upgrading machine images is time-consuming, is there any way I can help with this?
For reference, this pipeline checks various software versions for the macOS runners.
