UX: Right-align numbers in tables
Proposal
Data in our tables is hard to read because it doesn't align on the decimal.
Example:
The units also differ making data difficult to compare.
I propose fixing this in two stages:
- Separate the unit from the number within the table cell to ensure numbers align at the decimal, right-align the number, left align the unit, ensure all numbers have two decimals
- [needs research] convert all numbers to the same unit
The problem with converting to the same unit is when an object is in bytes, it becomes a very small decimal if the unit is GiB. 45 bytes, for example, is .00000004 GiB. We could show this as 0.00 GiB, but research is needed to understand whether this would be acceptable for users when looking at different types of storage. Is it detrimental to show 0.00 GiB versus 45 bytes?

None of them align on the decimal. Only Mac right-aligns their numbers but since their decimal usage is inconsistent they're still not aligned on the decimal.
