Investigation: Content Editor as an extension to the Source Editor
Problem to solve
The Source Editor can edit Markdown files just like any other code. In addition, there is a new feature enabling a fast, side-by-side rendered preview of the Markdown. This is helpful for many people, but some would prefer to edit directly in the rich preview. The Content Editor offers this experience but is currently limited to the Wiki pages.
Proposal
When editing a Markdown file in the Web IDE, Web Editor, or a Snippet, display an icon or menu item that allows you to effectively switch context and edit the document in the Content Editor.
Experience Details
- We don't need to have live side-by-side code and editing simultaneously. For this iteration, it would be acceptable to entirely switch contexts away from the raw source. Effectively we would swap the code editing area with the Content Editor.
- Any existing changes made in either editor should be preserved during the switch between editors
- You should be able to switch back and forth between editors seamlessly within an editing session
