Enable uploading of PDF images for Design Management

Problem to solve

In iOS Development PDF Assets are mostly used for any style of assets to support vector based assets.

Intended users

  • iOS developers which use the image catalog with single scale assets and want to use vector based assets.

Further details

  • I get an PDF assets from the design department to use in my iOS application

Proposal

Permissions and Security

We need to extensively work with AppSec to ensure the conversion of PDFs to images can happen securely. See #32811 (comment 415283038). The reasons why were summarised well by Matthias #32811 (comment 429295161)

Documentation

@toupeira : Yes (e.g. mentioning PDF support in Design docs, documenting Omnibus dependencies, updating installation instructions)

@.luke : Yes - we'd update our Design Management page

Testing

@toupeira : Test single-page and multi-page PDFs, different PDF versions, embedded fonts, ...

@.luke : Extensive!

What does success look like, and how can we measure that?

Look how many people use the pdf upload

What is the type of buyer?

  • Premium / Silver - cause https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/user/project/issues/design_management.html is silver and premium
