Iterate on the RSS feed button within the issue list
Problem to solve
Here is a screen capture from @beckalippert who said
Is this the expected behavior of the Subscribe to RSS feed button? I haven't used it before but was expecting it to give me a confirmation that I'm subscribed and maybe have the button change to an "Unsubscribe from RSS feed"
I've heard feedback from a few internal users around the confusing RSS feed experience. Some potential issues here:
- The tooltip mentions getting subscribed, but this action doesn't take place.
- The button navigates the user to an entirely new page just full of XML which I would assume is confusing and causes users to think this is a bug.
- To the above point- we seem to be making the assumption that the user has a feed reader.
- This new page rips the user out of the context of their issue list.
User experience goal
Users are supported in subscribing to the RSS feed and are educated in how to do so. They aren't navigated away from their current priority of the issue list.
Proposal
A. Make it clear that this will allow the user to access the XML to configure the feed themselves
- Change the copy to something like
view rss feed xml
. - Move the code to some kind modal/drawer/etc -something that doesn't cause a user to lose context.
- Give more education on what to do with this code.
- Allow the user to copy easily.
- Perhaps the button is even something like
copy rss xml
and just copies to clipboard if we wanted most MVC.
B. Allow the user to actually subscribe/unsubscribe from the button itself.
- As Becka mentioned, if the copy is
subscribe
- allow that button to subscribe the user. - Display if the user is subscribed or not from this view as well.
- Is this feasible though?
