Add education around unexpected states of swimlanes on boards
Problem to solve
Users could potentially run into states with swimlanes applied where they see more epic swimlanes in their board than expected. This is most likely due to:
- Not scoping down the board enough which results in:
- Many open issues that could have epics attached to them
- Many closed issues that could have epics attached to them
- More issues than intended on the board in general that could then have epics attached to them
- Some users do not prefer to see the
Open
andClosed
lists in general, preferring either not to use them or to use their own labels for these states
How might we educate users about this and how they can work to alleviate this problem within their board?
User experience goal
Users are able to focus one swimlanes/epics they care about, without the additional clutter of unintended epics causing their board to perhaps be less performant and usable.
Proposal
- For MVC- show an informational alert with information about scoping a board further or hiding the Open and Closed lists. We could perhaps determine a threshold here of what is "too many" epics to show which then triggers this alert.
- This alert appears at the top of the board content under the breadcrumbs.
- The alert has the option to close the alert, or go to Board settings.
