Improve Epic date picker experience and encourage users to inherit dates
Problem to solve
Picking start and due dates for Epics requires many clicks and information tooltips to educate users. How might we reduce clicks here, make more apparent the impact of different date selections, and also most importantly- guide users toward inheriting dates instead of fixing them?

Further details
Inheriting dates will help users keep their work items organized within the larger theme, and improve hierarchy of work items on the roadmap. We also want to future proof this picker for when we add in more timeboxes like sprints.
Proposal
Quick idea from #7076 (closed) :
- Those two date options really shouldn't be exposed to users at the same time (those radio buttons). It makes it very confusing as to what
edit
means. We could alleviate this a bit by making choosing the date type the first step in the flow for a user to pick, and that impacts the view they see and what they are editing in the sidebar. I did this here with the segmented control (basically tabs). - Now that it is very clear what
edit
is actually impacting, if a user has selectedinherited
and clicks edit, they get a dropdown that allows them to choose which milestone they want to inherit from. - If a user selected the
fixed
date option, the experience is similar to how it is now.
