Problem to solve
We allow users to set alerts on charts on the Operations > Metrics/Kubernetes pages. The process for displaying added alerts and for removing/editing those alerts could be improved.
Some areas for review:
- Formatting of the fields in the alert dropdown don't currently match what's in the pattern library. Should the field labels be bold? Should a dropdown have a close button? Here's the current state:
- When an alert has been added, we should investigate ways of displaying the added alert that better fit with design.gitlab.com guidelines, and make it easier for users to remove the added alert. Initially suggesting a badge with a close icon, similar to what we do with applied filters, so users could directly remove the alert without having to go into the alert panel. Here's how it looks currently:
...And here's the suggested badge:
- Make it easier for users to figure out how to edit an already added alert. Right now, the user would have to re-enter the query in the alert dropdown to even see the edit screen, which hides the functionality. Here's how it looks currently when users have an alert and open the alert panel:
It's only after making a selection in the dropdown that the edit functionality is revealed:
Perhaps this could be clearer?
