fix: vue 3 checked state on GlFormCheckbox
What does this MR do?
Fixes an issue where GlFormCheckbox `checked` prop does not behave c... (#3017 - closed)
I've added the test that was an example in the issue, plus a story to check the use of a single checkbox without the v-model binding of the containing checkbox group.
Investigation
A couple of things were problematic.
1. domProps
domProps is no longer contained in a nested object for render functions, see https://v3-migration.vuejs.org/breaking-changes/render-function-api#vnode-props-format
domProps into the h object since its not technically needed for this issue, but it'll be good to keep this in mind when we remove compat.
2. v-model conflict
In Vue 3, v-model works by:
- Automatically binding the value or modelValue prop to the element.
- Emitting an update:modelValue event when the value changes.
Render Function Adjustment
Instead of using the legacy directives syntax, you directly bind the checked property (or other relevant props) and handle the change event manually, or you rely on v-model.
In Vue 3:
v-model uses the modelValue prop and update:modelValue event by default.
If you use checked directly, Vue binds it as a DOM property, ensuring it dynamically updates with the reactive value of isChecked. By removing the legacy model directive and switching to the native Vue 3 mechanism, the framework can properly track and sync reactivity.

Does this MR meet the acceptance criteria?
This checklist encourages the authors, reviewers, and maintainers of merge requests (MRs) to confirm changes were analyzed for conformity with the project's guidelines, security and accessibility.

Conformity
-
Code review guidelines. -
GitLab UI's contributing guidelines. -
If it changes a Pajamas-compliant component's look & feel, the MR has been reviewed by a UX designer. -
If it changes GitLab UI's documentation guidelines, the MR has been reviewed by a Technical Writer. -
If the MR changes a component's API, integration MR(s) have been opened (see integration merge requests above). -
Added the ~"component:*"label(s) if applicable.
Security
If this MR contains changes to processing or storing of credentials or tokens, authorization and authentication methods and other items described in the security review guidelines:
-
Label as security and @ mention @gitlab-com/gl-security/appsec -
Security reports checked/validated by a reviewer from the AppSec team
Accessibility
If this MR adds or modifies a component, take a few moments to review the following:
-
All actions and functionality can be done with a keyboard. -
Links, buttons, and controls have a visible focus state. -
All content is presented in text or with a text equivalent. For example, alt text for SVG, or aria-labelfor icons that have meaning or perform actions. -
Changes in a component’s state are announced by a screen reader. For example, changing aria-expanded="false"toaria-expanded="true"when an accordion is expanded. -
Color combinations have sufficient contrast.
