Design tokens > Token inventory

Purpose

Use a spreadsheet to capture and inventory all tokens in order to:

  • Have a good understanding of the initial quantity of tokens we're talking about.
  • Ensure scalability for future modes (dark, high contrast, density, and more).
  • Work through naming and standardizing concepts. A spreadsheet helps to:
  • See all tokens in one place in order to make more holistic decisions.
  • Avoid creating data in Figma that can't be removed later (leading to file bloat).
  • Avoid working with specific formatting in code.
