Initial IA Updates
groupdesign system has recently merged GitLab UI into the design.gitlab.com project in order to make it easier to user, contribute to, and maintain the design system.
As we work towards consolidating and unifying the documentation from these two sources, we need to make a set of minimal, high-impact information architecture updates. These should ensure that users can find and understand component documentation, examples, and usage guidance within an updated structure.
Scope includes:
- Evaluating whether navigation or top-level taxonomy changes are needed with this first round of updates.
- Resolving inconsistencies across similarly named components in design.gitlab.com and Storybook.
- Finding a place for content that previously only existed in Storybook (eg. Utilities, directives, etc...)
- Updating or introducing elements to support discoverability of Storybook content
Not in scope:
- A better integration between brand, marketing, and product
- A redefined hierarchy for design.gitlab.com
