Document tested Podman compatibility in Docker executor docs
Not ready for review, work in progress.
Partial progress on the "Update the Podman documentation" checklist item from #31043.
What changed
Adds a note to the "Use Podman to run Docker commands" section of
docs/executors/docker.md disclosing what Podman compatibility has
actually been validated so far, as opposed to the pre-existing
minimum-supported-version claim (Podman v4.2.0 or later, left
unchanged):
- Rootless Podman, with both a root and a non-root container-process user, has been validated against Podman 5.8.2.
- Rootful Podman has also been validated, against a live root-owned Podman 5.8.2 socket.
Why now, and what's next
Two sibling MRs are adding automated integration test coverage for this same work item and are not yet merged:
Once those merge, this note should be revisited and expanded to
reflect whatever CI wiring they add. This MR only documents what's
true on main today.
