Docs feedback: On the transaltion page, the "Inclusive language in French" section is wrong
Hi !
On the transaltion page, the "Inclusive language in French
" section is wrong on many levels :
https://docs.gitlab.com/ce/development/i18n/translation.html#inclusive-language-in-french
I blame commit 65f362b6 from @DevDef here :
https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/commit/65f362b6a467fddd4f6aa0dd32dd0dd917c9ae55
There are multiple misinterpretation in the commit :
- The link provided (see below) does not say that inclusive language is « over » in France. On the contrary, the text recognize its existence and even provides a definition for it. What the text says is that this inclusive language should not be used in official documents produced by French governement agencies and public agencies.
In other words, this text does not apply to the gitlab documention in any way.
https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/affichTexte.do?cidTexte=JORFTEXT000036068906&categorieLien=id
- Inclusive language is currently used in multiple domains in France : for example : school manuals, National media, various organisations and even some road signs :

- France is not the only country where people speak French. In Quebec or Switzerland, inclusive langage is more common.
See : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langage_épicène
In a nutshell, while there is a strong controversy on this topic in France, in numerous organisation and in other french speaking countries the use of inclusive language is common. If GitLab wants to use this form of speech for its own documentation, there's no clear argument that can go against that.
Therefore Commit 65f362b6 should reverted and the previous version of the paragraph should be restored.
