Show post-merge pipeline in merge request page
Problem to solve
When a pipeline is kicked off from an accepted merge request that merges to master (or probably any target branch), the pipeline is spun up and NOT associated to the MR. This means that from the MR screen, there is not an easy way (one click) to get straight to the running pipeline.
Further details
Use Case:
- go to MR
- approve the merge
- pipeline starts (presumably - no indication of this)
- still on the MR, try to get to the running pipeline that's resulted from merging to master
- You have to go to "Pipelines" and look for the latest one that matches your branch
Proposal
- should be able to simply click in the MR on the new pipeline that was spun up as a result of the merge approval.
- The results of that pipeline should also be put back into the MR.
- Link in pipeline page to the MR that kicked it off
Solution
Solving this issue should take into account also #25140 (closed).
Best way to get both done is showing the post-merge pipeline on the MR page.
What does success look like, and how can we measure that?
Success criteria:
- one click in MR to get to pipeline running as a result of a merge request approval
- One click from pipeline page to get to the MR that started it
