UX Research: default view for projects
Based on discussion: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/26834
Proposed change
Logic to depict change to default view:
Note: README view to show Files + README as per https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/27882#note_24874410
Updated Preference:
Background
Which default view for GitLab help users not familiar with GitLab feel more comfortable? What view is most useful to them?
Hypotheses
- I expect that the Readme (which is the current default) will be preferred when people are viewing projects they are unfamiliar with.
- Files will be comfortable to people who are very familiar with GitHub
- Activity would be useful for people who are managing a team or the project.
OPEN Given this hypothesis, and with the limitations of not knowing roles of users, and not being able to build a smart experience, how would we change the design? Initial reaction - focus on numbers. See which category is largest, and set default to that.
Proposed process
- Clone an existing active project. Set up 3 accounts, each with a different default view set in https://gitlab.com/profile/preferences.
- Recruit people who don't currently use GitLab (but fit our target personas)
-
OPENWhat questions or tasks does it make sense to ask them?
