GA unified backups priority1
Who: Gabriel, Aakriti, Kyle, Nick
Unified backup is a single backup solution that will eventually work across all the different types of GitLab installations - Linux packaged, Docker, Cloud Native Hybrid and GDK.
The MVC address 1K reference architectures with local file storage on Linux package (Omnibus) and GDK installations. Now that MVC is nearing completion, we will be working towards making a GA release. To achieve this, we will enhance our testing to ensure the solution is robust and customers can rely on it for their Disaster Recovery (DR) needs.
Over time we will enhance/replace existing code with solutions that will scale better and lead to more consistent backups. The long-term vision can be seen the next-gen scalable backup and restore epic. In this milestone, we continue to work on building the unified CLI.
High-level design blueprint for cell mover MVC priority1
Who: Douglas and Mike
As we approach Cells 1.5, we need a way to migrate organisations from the current GitLab.com infrastructure to Cells. We need to achieve this with minimal disruption to our users on GitLab.com. The cell mover will help us achieve this by replicating the organisation's data to a Cell. The first step is to create a blueprint for the design of the cell mover.
Architecture blueprint for unified backups priority2
Who: Gabriel
Now that the foundations of unified backups is in place with the release of the MVC, we want to share detailed architecture and future technical direction with a broader audience - internal GitLab teams who will be looking to engage with unified backups and customers who are interested in understanding better how it works under the hood. The architecture blueprint will be the way we communicate this.
Unified backup - Extend support to 3K - 10K reference architectures on GCP priority2
Who: Ian
Follow up to the Unified backup MVC to extend the solution to support large deployments (up to 10K) hosted on GCP. We will add support for object storage backups and Cloud Native Hybrid installations.
