Clarify design trainee and maintainership
Why is this change being made?
Expectations around design trainee and maintainership are lacking. That has been highlighted in gitlab-org/gitlab-services/design.gitlab.com#429 (closed), as well as in other places and conversations.
To address this, as part of our OKR gitlab-org/gitlab-design#858 (closed), this MR will:
- Highlight key aspects of maintainership. Such as “maintainer-level” merge requests, that contributions also count, and that traineeship is optional.
- Set expectations on traineeship duration and possible solutions to speed it up.
Subsequent MRs will be created to address the knowledge required to become a design maintainer and also our limit on trainees.
