Resolve "Search Group/Category name change"
Problem
There are multiple forms of search in GitLab:
- Global search from the /search endpoint
- Filter bar searches (/issues, /merge_requests, /epics) (Part of Plan)
- Search within dropdowns (milestone, users, right side of issues) (Part of the Global FE)
- Elasticsearch Logging (Part of APM)
Currently the Search group is only responsible for the Global /search
endpoint - this means when users looking for various responsible groups are confused by a broadly termed "Search Group".
Proposal
This MR renames the following major aspects:
-
Group:
Search
toGlobal Search
-
Category:
Search
toGlobal Search
The non-Elasticsearch feature of this name will be referred to as Basic Global Search
in documentation.
What is not being changed?
Currently the global search featured powered by Elasticsearch is named Advanced Global Search
. As it is a more advanced version of the existing global search this will remain the feature name. An issue to ensure consistency across the application and documentation will be worked within the group.
