Clarify when it's appropriate to delete messages you already sent

Deleting, or substantively editing the content of, messages you've already sent is deeply confusing to people. Sometimes it's the best option - for instance, if you've accidentally exposed some private information - but for simple cases of embarrassment, I think it's more transparent, and better all round, to leave the original message in place and send a follow-up message instead.

Thoughts?
