Proposal: Allow up to 5 days co-working without pro-rated internet expense

Max Woolf requested to merge mw/propose-internet-coworking-allowance into master

Why is this change being made?

  • The new expenses policy does not allow for the expensing of internet connections on days when coworking space is also used.
  • This change adds a number of days a month where GitLab will effectively cover both for the following reasons:
    • Calculating a monthly pro-rata amount to expense every month is not efficient.
    • The time cost involved in calculating this, and then my manager verifying it each month is not reasonable. This is in addition to the calculation needed to only expense the broadband portion of my cable bill. In my personal example, co-working costs 11GBP a day for an average of 4-5 days a month.
  • I understand that GitLab should not be responsible for paying for the internet connection when it is more often not used for work purposes. (Hence setting a limit of 5 days a month before the pro-rata amount should be calculated.)
  • For those visiting a co-working space on an ad-hoc, daily basis, getting out and seeing people/meeting folks in the local tech community should be encouraged. If I have to spend time doing calculations on a monthly 50GBP cable bill every month, I probably won't bother.
