Increases the guideline price for office chairs
Why is this change being made?
I've approved a good number of expence reports at GitLab, but the most common one to go over budget is the ergonomic chair. In my opinion, the current guideline price is a little too low.
Our own handbook states that,
Seating should be not viewed not as an expense, but as an investment in your health, comfort, and productivity.
It goes on to suggest steelcase and MillerKnoll as solid options. Both of which are way out of the current price guideline in our handbook ($200 - $400 USD).
Brand | Lowest price | Highest Price | Median Price |
---|---|---|---|
Steelcase |
Series 2 $487 USD
|
Siento $2,374 USD
|
$972 USD |
MillerKnoll |
Sayl $695 USD
|
Cosm $1,995 USD
|
$1,195 USD |
Used versions of these chairs are much cheaper, if you can find them. But finding them can be very tricky outside of the US.
With the above said, I think a bump to $300 - $600
is sensible. It captures the cheaper end of these chairs whilst still preventing folks from going too wild.
We should ensure that chairs on the higher end of this price range are actually ergonomic and not just expensive, designer chairs
