FY21-Q2 Product Design Managers OKR: Improve understanding of development and design review process by becoming active contributors
-
Key Result: Have each Product Design Manager (including VP of UX and Product Design Director) get at least one change for the gitlab-org/gitlab project merged. These changes should be created via the GDK (Instructions how to set up the GDK). 7/8 => 87%
-
Stretch Goal: Have 21 changes merged in total. 25/21 => 119%
-
Participants: For the Key Result, it would be amazing if every Product Design Manager would participate and contribute at least one change. @clenneville picked one up a few months ago, and she said that it changed her perspective! @tauriedavis and @mvanremmerden will make sure to provide support to everyone for selecting suitable issues, getting the GDK to work, and fixing problems.
-
Goal: The main goal is to give every Product Design Manager a deeper insight into this process, so that we can empathize more deeply with not only our users, but also the designers in our teams. This will hopefully help us support them in case of questions or when giving advice how to deal with making small changes or doing reviews via GDK.
GOOD:
- We can make meaningful improvements to our product while also learning first hand about how design and development works at GitLab and what challenges our designers face.
BAD:
- This might take time and focus away from other parts of our work.
TRY:
- It would be amazing if we could connect our effort on this with the two OKRs to improve lovability of issues and merge requests.
