RFC: Should we use issues in this project to manage and track discussions on the US Gov Sync?
Request for Comments
As we grow the team and become more async in nature it can be difficult to find and surface issues effectively week after week. I propose we could use this project for discussion and tracking important discussion items. The items would be raised here and each week we would check in on open issues to see if we have enough discussion to make a decision and move the issue forward.
Need
Right now our only source of tracking and awareness is 1:1 and in the weekly gov sync. We have a number of issues that have fallen by the wayside due to lack of attention, discussion, or other items taking priority. It is hard to get a full picture of what state issues may be in at a particular time, especially if you take time off or are involved in an escalation/customer issue.
Approach
If you have an idea, process improvement, or want to discuss something with a wider group and get input, open an issue and add it to this week's milestone. This way we will know to discuss it during the weekly sync and folks can contribute more async
Benefit
- It is a singular place to find and surface issues. Sure, support team meta also does this, but that tracker isn't scoped to US Gov and things can get easily lost in the noise.
- We can use milestones for tracking to ensure important items get attention and appropriate action, and we can back burner longer term ideas with less need for action.
Competition / Alternatives
- We could probably do the same in the support team meta issue tracker using specific labels and such
- We could call attention by creating a specific group to tag in on US gov issues when attention/discussion is warranted
