Proposal: mark resolved issues on Slack channels in a consistent way
This proposal is originally destined to the #questions
channel but could potentially extend to all GitLab Slack channels.
Background
-
Currently, there is no standard way to easily see at a glance if an issue/question posted on GitLab's Slack channels are resolved.
-
Often times, users click to open a thread to check the comments to see the status and give feedback to an issue that might have been already solved.
-
People Ops uses the
✅ check emoji to mark as solved questions posted to the#peopleops
Slack channel. This check is done by a moderator of the channel. Example: https://gitlab.slack.com/archives/C0SNC8F2N/p1541954017387000
Proposal
-
Standardise how issues are being marked as solved on Slack channels across the GitLab organisation.
-
The user that created the original message should be responsible for adding a 'solved' check to the message once the initial question is answered in Slack.
-
I suggest using the same
✅ check emoji as People Ops is already using on#peopleops
. -
Another possibility would be editing the original message to include a [Solved] tag in the beginning of the message. Example: https://gitlab.slack.com/archives/C0AR2KW4B/p1542277630664600 (although I'd suggest adopt using the emoji check since it's a known standard).
Thanks @lbot for suggesting escalating this idea!
