Preparing to launch DEI badging integration
We're about to celebrate a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to make GitLab a more inclusive and welcoming place to build open source software: officially integrating with the Community Health Analytics in Open Source Software (CHAOSS) project's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) Project Badging system.
Soon, open source projects on GitLab will be able to quickly and easily signal their focus on building diverse communities. They'll be able to highlight the work they're doing to welcome and support new members. And they'll be able to display visual indicators of their status as CHAOSS-certified, inclusive projects.
We're really excited about it. You can read more about the work as it's happening in our public issue.
We'll be making lots of noise about this very soon. We're achieving our own CHAOSS certification, and we want to invite members of the GitLab Open Source Partners community to join us. By participating, you'll be among the very first group of open source projects on GitLab to achieve the CHAOSS DEI certification. When we publish our official announcement of these new certification capabilities, we'll feature your project and community in it.
It's a great opportunity to help us test important new GitLab functionality, build a more inclusive open source ecosystem, and strengthen your identity as an inclusive open source project.
We hope you'll consider participating in the launch. The first step is to retrieve the DEI.md file template and tailor it to showcase your project's DEI efforts. That way, when the integration with the DEI Project Badging initiative is complete, your project is prepared for certification review. CHAOSS has full details on that process.
And of course, we're here to help! My teammate leading this work, @daniel-murphy, and I will be working on this issue to assist any partner projects who'd like to get certified in time to become part of the official launch announcement. Watch this space; we'll have an update on our publication plans soon.
We'll use this space to discuss the work, collaborate on certifications, ask and answer questions, and more.
