Analyze reasons for performance difference on two issues, as case study
Related to checking out performance #1830 (closed)
Sid: When showing https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/1 the outside monitoring (http://stats.pingdom.com/81vpf8jyr1h9/1902794 ) shows 2,480 ms and my test (snippet: https://gitlab.com/snippets/1662597) shows 2614 ms with 2221 in processing while Projects::Issues Controller#show has a mean of 245 ms (https://performance.gitlab.net/dashboard/db/daily-overview?panelId=14&fullscreen&orgId=1) . That is a 10x difference in response time! Finding out where we are spending that time can make a big difference. The large difference might be due to the size of the test issue, I ran another test (snippet https://gitlab.com/snippets/1662599) with a simple issue (sytses/test-2#1) that shows a mean of 825ms with a processing time of 458ms. 458ms is less than a factor of 2 from 245ms.
- Use profiler to determine why the processing time 5x different between these two issues.
@stanhu can we use this as a way for me to learn how to use profiler? I just submit the two issues as URLs in the profiler repo at https://gitlab.com/gitlab-com/gitlab-profiler/blob/master/config.yml.sample ?
