Announcement: Merge Request shows the deployment environment
What am I looking at?
The Merge Request widget now shows the environment and the time of deployment in every Merge Request.
This should provide sufficient information to understand where in the process your merge request is.
-
gprd
is production environment -GitLab.com
-
gprd-cny
is canary environment -canary.gitlab.com
-
gstg
is staging environment -staging.gitlab.com
What can I do with this information?
MR widget now contains all information needed for you to know if your changes have been deployed to any of the environments.
For example, given that we only include a MR in a monthly self-managed release if it has been deployed to GitLab.com, you can quickly check the date/time when your MR was deployed to conclude whether the MR will be included in the release.
It is also useful as a quick way to understand which environment you should be looking at if you need to manually verify your changes.

Including this information in the widget renders GitLab Bot comment in merge requests, such as this one less useful.
This action has also proven to be unreliable because sometimes the comment does not get posted or not all MR's are eligible for this comment.
To reduce the clutter on the MR page, and reduce the noise this creates, we are proposing to remove gitlab-bot comment holding the information about deployment.
