Determine where the bug/security release date information should live
Context
The bug/security release dates are set based on the release SLO, this means that at least every 22 days GitLab will publish a new patch release including bug and security fixes. The patch release dates for the present quarter (FY25-Q1
) have been defined on https://gitlab.com/gitlab-com/gl-infra/delivery/-/issues/19967, while this generates expectations, it is not clear if planning security release dates in advance is a practice we should continue.
The purpose of this issue is to answer the following questions:
- Are the bug and security release dates required to be planned and shared in advance?
- If the above is yes, where should this information live?
- On the releases page https://about.gitlab.com/releases/. This will be ideal but care should be taken to ensure the release dates are SAFE and to clarify they are best effort
- Internal handbook
- GitLab confidential issue
