Create next.gitlab.com or canary.gitlab.com page
Similar to next.gitter.im
, it would be great if we could offer this for gitlab.com. This would
make it much simpler for people to opt in/out of canary use. It would also allow us to remove the need for a custom canary favicon which is generating a lot of discussion in https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/56982 and https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/46048 .
Here is what we want from the page:
- Ability to turn the canary off and on by setting the
gitlab_canary
cookie - Some indication whether the canary is enabled, if it is similar to https://next.gitter.im then I think that is probably good enough but it would be cool to see other design suggestions
We don't have the ability for individual users to opt in and out of features but maybe this is something we can eventually support.
We should consider a handbook update after this is complete, definitely a mention on https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/engineering/#canary-testing but maybe we add something else as well?
