Ops Product Hiring Acceleration

Background

As of September 2019, the Ops Section of Product Management is fully staffed (2 Senior PMs, 2 Intermediate PMs). In our initial FY2020 planning we'd hoped to have PMs hired ahead of growing Engineering teams. This would enable the building out of a roadmap and category visions early in an effort for new Engineers joining the team capable of delivering to build great product enhancements quickly.

Our current Rolling 4 Quarter Team plan shows the next Ops section PM hires to be:

  1. Group Product Manager, Monitor - 2/1/2020
  2. Group Product Manager, Configure - 3/1/2020
  3. Senior Product Manager, Monitor - 4/1/2020

Proposal

I'd like to pull all three positions in two months. Making the plan dates:

  1. Group Product Manager, Monitor - 12/1/2019
  2. Group Product Manager, Configure - 1/1/2020
  3. Senior Product Manager, Monitor - 2/1/2020

And open all three positions immediately.

Costs and Budget Impact

The cost of doing so (model) would be $45.5k in FY2020 and $54.1k in FY2021. As Brooks mentioned the Product Hiring Budget is behind target in both headcount and cost for FY2020 and the pull ahead would be within budget.
