Dev Reorg 2022

Background

As announced iin Slack:

Hi team. I wanted to update about some changes in the Dev section on the Product and Development side.

The Optimize group will be moving from Manage to Plan. The Ecosystem stage will be deprecated. The Integrations and Foundations groups that belonged to Ecosystem will be moving to the Manage stage. The compliance Development team will be moving to the Govern stage (to join their counterparts from PM, UX & QA who moved to the Govern stage earlier this month)

The reasons for this change:

The Ecosystem stage spans across the entire GitLab platform in a similar way that Manage (Workspace, Import, Auth) does and therefore, it makes sense to have all these groups under the same stage that represents the core of the GitLab application. The target persona for both these stages are similar and having both under this consolidated stage will help focus a better cohesive vision and will drive more efficiency and collaboration (for example: Workspace is extremely tied with settings & navigation) Optimize and Plan come up regularly when talking to customers and will benefit from being closer aligned under the same stage. This will allow us to have a combined vision to address the common persona holistically. This will also help align us closer to the Enterprise Agile Planning market and unify our messaging against solutions from competitors.

Team member alignment:

Nathan Rosandich and the Compliance team will move to Govern/Phil Calder on 2022-11-18 Arturo Herrero and the Integrations team will move to Manage/Michelle Gill on 2022-10-03 Brandon Labuschagne and the Optimize team will move to Plan/John Hope on 2022-10-03 Lukas Eipert and the Foundations team will move to Mange but will continue to report to Tim Zallmann for the time being Haim Snir will move to Plan/Melissa Ushakov on 2022-10-03 Grant Hickman will move to Manage but will continue to report to Melissa Ushakov until the new Manage GPM is onboarded Christen Dybenko will move to Manage but will continue to report to Melissa Ushakov until the new Manage GPM is onboarded Product Design team members will move to their new stages, but will continue to report to their existing manager If you have any questions, please reach out to @ogolowinski or to @timzallmann
