Ops Section +10: Multi cloud deployment
Summary
Cloud deployment from a single tool is awesome. It saves developers and operators from switching between consoles and streamlines collaboration. Being able to deploy to multi-cloud is even better and is potentially a huge differentiator.
Proposal
Add 2 backend engineer by end of FY22 Q2
Business Case
Multi-cloud or hybrid cloud is popular because it helps customers avoid vendor lock-in, de-risk cloud outage, optimize for cost or use cases, and ultimately helps organizations mature in their DevOps practices.
GitLab can play a critical role in this space by making deployment to multi-cloud easy and seamless, thus overcoming the migration delays inherent within many organizations due to the lack of skills and know-how.
Since the re-org of the release team, the release team has been understaffed to pursue additional continuous deployment integration with cloud vendors.
We can take advantage of the desire among enterprises by making this easy, and having additional backend engineers is imperative to make this happen.
