Bug Description
Description
It seems that MALP cannot handle multiple albums of the same name - at least if they are by the same artist. In this case, only a single one of these albums seems to be displayed.
This is a problem specifically for collections that include classical music, in which case it is not unusual to have multiple interpretations of the same piece of music by the same composer, but recorded by different performers.
Reproducible
Yes. For example, in my collection, I have the following two albums, for which I am showing the relevant metadata (in this case Vorbis for .flac files):
- Album 1:
- Artist name: Johann Sebastian Bach
- Album title: Well-tempered Clavier, Book I
- Performer: Glenn Gould
- Album 2
- Artist name: Johann Sebastian Bach
- Album title: Well-tempered Clavier, Book I
- Performer: Friedrich Gulda
Actual Behaviour
MALP shows only one of the two albums described above - allegedly because their album titles are identical. A workaround requires to deliberately rename one of the albums (e.g., "Book 1" instead of "Book I"). While this might be acceptable for two different recordings of the same piece, it becomes unfeasible for classical music collectors who may have many recordings of the same piece of music.
Expected Behaviour
Show all albums of identical name as described above. I would like to argue that album titles should not be required to be unique, but that the uniqueness of an album should instead be derived from other metadata (such as the "Performer" field).
Note that other MPD clients (e.g., pms on a Debian box from which I control the same MPD server) behave exactly in this manner and show both of the albums listed above.
