Remember login cookie preference for future logins
Description
!2013 (merged) adds the option to stay logged in for a period of time after logging in. This can be enabled with a checkbox in the login form. I propose to remember the checkbox status for all future login processes.
Impact
Affects everybody who want to stay logged in.
Assuming that the decision on whether to stay logged in or not doesn't change often, it would save a click or a pressed key (and therefore time) on each login process (which adds up, because unfortunately we currently need to login very often).
Proposal
If I activate the checkbox in the login form, a permanent cookie should be saved remembering that I activated the checkbox. If I deactivate the checkbox, the permanent cookie should be deleted.
Whenever I open the login page, it should check whether the relevant cookie is present. If it is, the checkbox should automatically be activated. If it isn't present, the checkbox should not be activated.
That way, people choosing against cookies won't get any and people choosing cookies will get two instead of one.
