Major changes for /install-guide/install/: much obsolete and step-by-step guides switch arbitrarily between different editions
This issue ticket is about the /install-guide/install/ pages:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora/latest/install-guide/install/Preparing_for_Installation/
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora/latest/install-guide/install/Booting_the_Installation/
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora/latest/install-guide/install/Installing_Using_Anaconda/
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora/latest/install-guide/install/After_Installation/
The issue in general was put forward by @skierpage who posted #2 (closed) #3 (closed) #4 (closed) #5 (closed) , which I closed to sum them up in here.
See the interrelated issues #2 (closed) #3 (closed) #4 (closed) #5 (closed) (plus the #7 (closed) of @MechanicalSensation) and additionally:
The pages arbitrarily switch between editions: e.g., the booting page assumes a non-live installation media without making clear of the live alternative, whereas we generally foster people to use live media on getfedora (on getfedora, we focus on putting forward live images; alternatives remain easily hidden to those who do not know about them). This can be confusing for new users.
It becomes more problematic at the installing page, where it is indicated that Anaconda is always the same, which is not correct: the step-by-step guide seems to work with Fedora Server, which already differs to the normal live installations for average users (I am also not sure if the content is up to date), but at the end, it switches to explaining the steps of "live installations" which have a "Finish installation" button (which does not exist on Server), but it still explains that this button calls immediately a reboot, which is correct for the "Reboot System" button at the Server, but not for the "Finish installation" button of Workstations. So this page widely focuses on the Server installation but indicates all Anaconda installations look that way and it contains details that do only exist on the live images. This is just one example.
However, the after-installation page then switches back to the steps of the Workstation installation. One example of the outcome is that both the installation and the after-installation pages want to create root+user accounts. The after-installation page seems to illustrate Fedora 21. The pages in general seem to not yet contain the possibility of working without an active root account (which is a newer development on Fedora).
I only skimmed it. So there is likely to be more to do (#2 (closed) and #7 (closed) indicate that the preparation page contains comparable issues).
As already explained in the issues #7 (closed) #2 (closed) #3 (closed) #4 (closed) #5 (closed) , much details + links are no longer up to date as well.
So these pages need a major review, revision & several changes+updates, which have to be aligned to each other.
Thanks @skierpage & @MechanicalSensation for making us aware of the issues!
