A logo design
Problem Statement
We need a logo for the bootc project. It's an upstream open source project. "bootc" is shorthand for "Bootable Containers."
Some specs:
- We need a logo that could function both as a logo and an icon, so something roughly in a square aspect ratio, and can (or has a version that can) function at smaller sizes (eg 32px x 32px.)
- Ideally there would be a version of the logo that could work in one-color at a small scale.
- The logo should follow the general style / formatting of the containers org logos, e.g.
Some excerpts from the Podman brand book to demonstrate a few points:
- logo should have a shielded and a non-shielded version
- logotype is Montserrat, the "c" in bootc could be a different color or "bootc" could be all the same color
- simplified / single color logo can be a subset of the full mark (eg for podman it's just one simplified seal instead of all three)
Some conceptual ideas
The other guidance I gave was two rough possible ideas I ran past Colin already:
- A podman seal hopping around in a boot on the shore
- The container guy from the crun logo wearing boots walking on land
There is an elaborate backstory / context to these ideas that probably no one will get but might make someone feel good about them conceptually afterwards
Contacts
- Máirín Duffy :-)
- Colin Walters is the main technical contact, there is a team working on bootc that I'm happy to be a go-between with.
Deadline
Early February would be ideal!
Who will benefit?
This will benefit a lot of people, all of the bootc users, it's based on Fedora CoreOS tech, and is also a part of the upstream Containers community which we already have a strong relationship with.
