Tusky needs YouTube work work fully and correctly since a few weeks. This new feature was introduced and is not a bug. See here: https://github.com/tuskyapp/Tusky/issues/1381

14 days ago, I've asked the dev to host the required video on peertube, but got no response. Right now this app forwards the user to a Google Service and exposes the IP address of the user to Google.

The fork FreeTusky (see 1cbe8510 0 is not affected by this issue.

Apart from that: this happens brazenly without asking the user if it would be okay, to connect to that Google serve. It is actually doing it secretly, which makes the whole app malicious software. I wish there would be an antifeature for that! It could be classified as a security issue (an intended one though).

Apart from the privacy violation this imposes also a substantial risk, on being prosecuted in places where connections to YouTube are not allowed (employers, corporate networks, some countries, ....)

Apart from that, the app (with this feature) also behaves substantially different from what it declares in the app description. I wish there would be an antifeature for that too!

Note: this merge request has nothing to do with the arguable topic of having (or not having) censorship in the app. it is purely about using YouTube, for it's functionality.
